It’s quite possible they ushered in a bizarre period of relative peace made possible only by the threat of mutually assured destruction. A faustian bargain that may one day come due.

Pretty scary. Not too much redeems them but they are probably the least used weapon that humans have ever made and that doesn't count for nothing.
